The Gold Standard has been in existence for more than 30 years, and is a part of the local commercial community. We take inspiration from the book The Great Good Place, by Ray Oldenburg, who argues that for a healthy lifestyle we all need a Third Place. We have a place to live, and most of us have a place to work (or study), but we also benefit from having a Third Place. Perhaps this Third Place is a barbershop, a church or a bookstore. Oldenburg argues that included in this mix must be cafés, coffee shops and/or pubs; a place to hang out and share the local gossip. For more than 30 years we have strived to be your Third Place, in our belief that increased interaction of neighbors strengthens communities and adds meaning to our lives. In other words, a café provides much more than just the sustenance of food and drink. It is a place to refresh the soul.
The Gold Standard Café is a proud member of the Baltimore Avenue Business Association.
